Newly planted trees need to be watered well until they are established.
Keep the ares under and near the tree free of plant debris which might harbor ants and other insects.
Consider putting sticky paper around the trunk to catch insects crawling up.
Keep your kittys away from clawing at the tender young trunk of the tree. Give them something else nearby to scratch.
