Can I Trim My Lemon Tree?

I have a "miniature" lemon tree. Some of the branches are about 8 ft tall and will interfere with my neighbors tree, After a bout with scale last year and being treated it is now again producing a bunch of lemons. They are small and it will be quite sometime before they are ready to pick. Can I cut off the tall branches or will this affect the production of lemons or harm the tree? I live in CA where the weather is boucing from the 70's to 90 degrees lately.Thank you in advance for your reply.

you can only trim in the winter when flowers arent on the tree or very few are. prunning now can prevent lemons from growing on the tree this year.

cut at the earliest in the fall since lemons are commonly made on the outer branches of the tree and made most during the summer. if you need to cut a peice of one branch off and it isnt bearing too much then thats okay. if flowers are on the branch leave the branch alone till fall
