Is there a "lemon law" in the state of Oregon?

My best friend bought a used car less than two weeks ago and it has a serious problem with the emissions system and we want to know if there is a "lemon law" in the state of Oregon.

State "lemon laws" usually don't apply to used cars, but if she bought the car from a reputable dealer, then she should be able to take it back to the dealer and have them make repairs at a reasonable cost. If she bought the car from a private owner, then she's out of luck all the way around.

ALWAYS have a used car inspected by a mechanic you trust before you agree to the final sale price.

Yes. Less than 12,000 miles or 1 year.

Probably not. I have been on the opposite end of this situation, selling a car. Two years ago I sold a 1993 Chevy Cavalier with about 140,000 miles on it for $950. I told the buyer that she would need to put coolant in it before she drove it home because it had a leak, and needed to be refilled before driving. It wasn't NEARLY a perfect car, which was obvious because I only sold it for $950. I told her that I hadn't had a mechanic look at it, but I had never had a problem and it had never broken down on me. I also told her that I hadn't been driving it in several months because I bought a new car. WELL, apparently she didn't put coolant in it on her way home, about an hour away, and it overheated, which caused several major problems. She then tried to take me to court and get her money back plus some for "the trouble." She also began harassing my family and I with erratic phone calls. I contacted an attourney-friend of mine, who in turn contacted her and informed her that I would be counter-suing for harassment if she was even able to proceed with the charges. I didn't hear from her ever again. Just goes to show you...things aren't always the seller's fault.

yes but they differ from state to state try going to your states website it should be there.

the lemon law does not apply to used vehicles sold as is,,unfortunately it should though because i have seen a lot of used lemons, but if its used your friend might can call the place where they bought it from,,and tell them about whats happening to it,,and they might agree to have it repaired for them,,but id be nice,,if you call, and get smart with them,,they probably wont do anything to help ,,my family is in the car business,,and being nice goes a long way,,i own a repair shop,,and do a lot of work for the local car lots,,and they help people all the time,,good luck with it,,i hope this help,s.
